Isis is a protectress, an aspect of her Mother Goddess function, and her winged image symbolizes this enfoldment. Ra, the life-giving solar deity, was usually shown as a winged disc, but here his power too is contained in Isis. Note that her crown is stylized sun disc/lunar crescent. Hymns praised the goddess as 'she who made light with her feathers and wind with her wings.'
